God Is in Control
by Dr. Paul Chappell
"Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth. Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
God always has control of a situation no matter how bleak it looks to you.
So many situations in our lives seem out of our control. The loss of a job, the financial struggles, the health emergencies, the salvation of a loved one, the wayward walk of a child-if we're not careful, we can become anxious or discouraged by how much of life is out of our control.
This holiday season brings with it such joys but also such struggles. Many families will not be able to afford presents due to situations out of their control. Some family members will not be able to make their usual vacation due to unavoidable circumstances. Rather than being discouraged, look to God's control and realize that He has a hold of everything in your life.
Isaiah gives a good reminder to the nation of Israel about the omnipotence of God. God conducts the universe yet cares for even the smallest of living things on this earth. He is in control of all yet is involved in the intricacies of your life. As Isaiah 40 says, " Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth."
God knows your situation. He knows what you do have and what you don't have. He knows what you need and what you desire. Your God is not cruel to His children, but will provide for what they need. Remember the difficulties of people from the Bible and how God provided for them:
-When Joseph was sold into slavery and separated from his family, God established a great ruler who befriended Joseph and saved his entire family during a famine years later.
-When David faced Goliath, God provided a miraculous victory over the giant to show that His people were a chosen people.
-When Daniel was taken away from his family as a young man and taken to Babylon as a captive, God gave him favor with the king and eventually became one of his trusted advisers.
-When Haman plotted to kill the Jews in Persia, God placed Esther as queen to save His people from Haman's plan.
God always had control of a situation no matter how bleak it looks to you. Whatever you're facing today, don't focus on the immediate sorrow or problem, but realize God is in control of your situation and will work things out to His glory according to His sovereign plan.
