Jesus Christ is Lord
by Dr. Paul Chappell
"Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him."
John 2:7-11
While some redefine Christ to meet their own needs, God describes Christ as Lord.
We live in a day when people want to define the type of god they'll worship. Just as people questioned Christ's person while He was on earth, many people like to redefine Christ to meet their own needs. Some define Christ as caring and loving to fit their personal lifestyle, but forget His just and holy nature. Others want to define Him as strict and commanding, ignoring His grace and mercy. And others will focus on His laws without acknowledging that He fulfilled the law on the Cross.
Preacher C.H. Spurgeon once said, "God who is love is first of all light. Therefore, any thought of him being soft or indulgent toward sin must be put away." While many people define Christ to fit their own needs, God defines His Son as following:
1. "God" (John 1:1,18;20:28; Romans 9:5; Hebrews 1:8; 1 John 5:20)
2. "Our Great God and Saviour" (Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 1:1)
3. The "Mighty God" (Isaiah 9:6)
4. The "I AM" (John 8:58; Exodus 3:14)
5. The "First and the Last" (Revelation 1:17; 22:13; Isaiah 44:6; 48:12)
6. The "Lord of lords" (Revelation 17:14; Deuteronomy 10:17)
7. The "Alpha and the Omega" (Revelation 22:13; Revelation 1:8)
8. "One in Essence with the Father" (John 10:30)
9. "Exists in the form of God" (Philippians 2:6)
10. The "Exact Representation of His Nature" (Hebrews 1:3)
11. The "Creator and Sustainer of the universe" (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:3; Genesis 1:1; Exodus 20:11; Isaiah 40:28)
12. "In Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form" (Colossians 2:9)
13. The "One who forgives sins" (Mark 2:7,10; Isaiah 43:25; Daniel 9:9)
14. "Raises the Dead" (John 5:21; 11:25)
15. "Receives the Worship Reserved for God Alone" (Philippians 2:10; Isaiah 45:23; Matthew 14:33; Matthew 4:10)
Clearly the biblical evidence and description lead to one possible conclusion: Jesus is God. He holds all the deity and characteristics of God.
Jesus proved His deity in John 2 with the performance of His first miracle-changing water into wine. He proved that while people would question His person, He had all the power of God to help those in need.
Have you ever stopped to think about the power Christ has? He not only taught people about His Father, but reached out to meet their needs. He didn't discriminate against the weak, poor, or underprivileged. Christ healed beggars and princes. He spoke to fishermen and rich men. Jesus offers His power to all who will seek Him.
Are you in need of Christ's power in some area of your life? Jesus Christ is Lord and has the power to help meet any need you have. Take time to meet with Him now and lay your needs before Him, seeking His help and power.
