Refuse to Fear

"And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?"

Mark 4:38

God's promised to bring you through each storm you face; you must trust His guidance.

Fear is a crippling emotion that many people allow to rule their lives. Fear of the future, fear of the past, and even fear of the present can keep people from doing many things. It is said that Communist dictator Joseph Stalin was so afraid of assassination, he chose a different bedroom in his eight-bedroom house to sleep in each night, so no one knew his exact location.

Notice the fear of the apostles as they faced a severe storm while crossing the Sea of Galilee, "And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?" These experienced fishermen were so afraid of the storm that they woke Christ from His sleep and questioned His loving care for them.

What would cause the disciples to question the very love of Christ? Had He not proven to them time and again His love for them, for their countrymen, and for the entire human race? The fear of dying so gripped their hearts that they forgot the love of God.

G. Campbell Morgan once said, "What we do in the crisis always depends on whether we see the difficulties in the light of God or God in the shadow of the difficulties." "Does God care?" asked the disciples. God did care, but fear kept them from believing this.

Have you ever questioned God's love and care in the midst of a storm? Have you ever felt fear so much that you began questioning the will of God? Never forget that any circumstance out of your control is in the will of God.

Consider the following promises from God that apply to your storm:

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me."-Hebrews 13:5-6

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."-1 Peter 5:7

"And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom ye fight."-Joshua 10:25

"When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple."-Psalm 27:2-4

God promises to be with you, care for you, carry your burden, defeat your enemies, and protect you. Why do you have reason to fear?

Refuse to fear the storms that enter your life. Don't allow fear to cripple your trust in God. As you face each storm, trust God to bring you through the storm according to His will.
